Electric Floor Heating Running Costs Connected to Time of Use metersModern Power Smart meters record how much electricity is used in half hour periods and have an internal clock to record the time of day and date when the electricity is used. The Power Smart meters are the standard for homes requiring a new meter, such as in new properties or where the electrical installation is being upgraded.The new meters and Power Smart pricing is currently being rolled out as part of a long term plan to help reduce the increasing peaks in electricity demand by spreading electricity consumption more evenly across the day. ![]() Comparison floor heating running costs for available floor heating systems connected to Power Smart Home ‘smart’ meters is as follows (note: the running cost calculations below does not factor savings from heating connected to a thermostat): In-slab - for slabs energised between the hours of 7pm till 7am (total 12 hours per day), the maximum running cost per day is 17 cents/m2 during weekdays and 14 cents/m2 over weekends. In-screed - where the heating cable is embedded in a screed and energised in the morning between the hours of 6am till 8am and in the evening between 5pm till 11pm (total 8 hours per day), the maximum running cost per day is 17.5 cents/m2 during weekdays and 10 cents/m2 over weekends. In-tile adhesive and under carpet - where the floor heating is energised for use between the hours of 6am till 8am and in the evening between 5pm till 11pm (total 8 hours per day), the maximum running cost per day is 11.5 cents/m2 during weekdays and 6.6 cents/m2 over weekends.
